We've just updated in-market and BlackBerry App world ? storefront appliance OS distribution for the BlackBerry Developer Zone with latest data from May. You will see that the proportion of devices on the market running 6.0 software has jumped a full 8% since March this year and the devices with OS 5.0 and 6.0 still dominate the user base, making 68% of all devices in the field.
We also saw an increase of users with BlackBerry ? smartphones running download free applications BlackBerry OS 6.0 App world – 31% of the free app downloads from a 6.0 smartphone. Also, the majority of free downloads App world from smartphones running OS 5.0 and 6.0 smartphones, for a total of 88%.
Looking at the numbers of paid apps from the App world, 94% of smartphone users have BlackBerry devices with OS 5.0 and 6.0 software. An increasing number of customers with 6.0 devices are now purchasing paid apps compared with last quarter, with 6.0 devices that make up 54% of all paid app downloads.
These statistics reflect a growing opportunity for developers to target a customer base with applications that support the latest smartphone OS, 5.0, 6.0, and especially so if you have not updated your app still support 6.0 so that you can review the development tools, simulators and development 6.0 drivers.
