LED - TV blouse Dave Forbes for Burning Man

by Mark R - on July 12, 2011

I saw attempts to mix poster before clothes, and they usually end up being a stiff screen on the loose clothing.

Yeah, it is not really a good fit, but Dave Forbes created a 160 x 120 LED video coat which somehow plays video everywhere. You can watch a video after the jump, and you can see how it works.

You can see that it is pretty DIY and is essentially a printed circuit board and LED flex hot tips glued on a lab coat material. Video feed on stems of the iPod, and you can see that there are buttons for adjusting the color, brightness, and even a way to switch it in black and white.

Dave Forbes plans on bearing the mantle at Burning Man in the summer. It will have to change batteries every hour or more, though.

I'm not sure what's long-term plan of Dave Forbes with this television laboratory coat. In all honesty, I do not see a practical need for clothing that works as a video screen. Unless one wants to be a walk of commercial television to a convention or something.

You can always admire the neat factor of something like that. I guess that you could not sit in it unless you want to break it. Something tells me that once we get at the age of the flexible screens, we will be seeing much more sustainable clothing TV examples.
